Elisabeth von der Lohe - Biography

Elisabeth von der Lohe

Serene Landscapes

I was born in Geilenkirchen, Germany (a town close to the Dutch and Belgian border), and I am a practicing cardiologist. Until January 2025 I performed coronary interventions.  I moved from Germany to Indianapolis in 1994.

I always loved colors, flowers and the beauty of a serene landscape. I also like to work with my hands, therefore my passion for painting and interventional cardiology. However, I did not start painting seriously until 1997-1998. In the first few years my medium was watercolors, primarily painting flowers from my own garden or from a bouquet I bought in winter. About 15 years ago, I started painting landscapes. It was not until then that I not only found a medium that best fits my needs (pastel), but also a wonderful teacher with a great eye (well- known Indiana artist Pamela Newell). Since then, most of my work entails pastel landscapes. My inspiration comes from photos I take myself, mostly from my garden, Eagle Creek Park, Germany or when on vacation.

My work was accepted in juried exhibition such as Hoosier Salon, Indiana Heritage Art and Richmond Art Museum. In June 2025 I was not only elected to present at the Indian Heritage Art Exhibition, but also was awarded the Ronald o. Elkins Memorial Award
